Act Against AIDS

Every 9 1/2 minutes, another person in the United States becomes infected with HIV. This resulted in over 56,000 new HIV infections in this country in 2006 alone. Now is the time for you to Act Against AIDS.

Help Make a Difference! June E-Newsletter from Lifelong AIDS Alliance

A Letter from David Richart, Lifelong AIDS Alliance’s Executive Director

Greetings Friends and Supporters of Lifelong AIDS Alliance,

For the first time in our 26-year history, we have had to start a meals and food wait list for Chicken Soup Brigade clients. With rising food and healthcare costs, unemployment and homeless rates higher then they’ve been in years past, and cuts in government funding, there is a great amount of need.

As we look at the second half of 2009, more then 3,500 individuals will rely on Lifelong for a variety of life-sustaining services, including healthy food, shelter, and referrals to medical, dental and mental-health professionals.

In order to save money so we can continue serving our clients with the same amount of care and attention in the past, the staff at Lifelong implemented furloughs to help us navigate through these difficult economic times and the cuts in government funding.

A donation in any amount can help in a big way:

$5 provides two prepared meals for a Chicken Soup Brigade client
$46 provides one week of fresh meals and groceries for a person living with HIV/AIDS.
$106 provides one week of meals, groceries and case management for a client
$304 provides one month of meals, groceries, and case management for a client
$527 provides one month of housing, groceries, meals and case management for a client

Click here to be directed to our secure online donation page. Thank you for your continued generosity and support.  In difficult times like these, we must continue to unite and work together to make it through these challenging times.

Sincerely,

David Richart,
Executive Director

Caring for People

Last Saturday, June 13, PCC Natural Markets participated in a Care To Shop for Chicken Soup Brigade (CSB).  Each store had barrels out front for patrons to donate much-needed items to CSB.  Volunteers stood in front of the stores to provide shoppers with detailed shopping lists of items CSB desperately needs.  This special PCC Care to Shop day brought in 1,585lbs of food for CSB!  Thank you so much to everyone who participated.  Didn’t make it to this Care to Shop? There are many opportunities for you to participate at your local grocery stores.  Click here for a list of participating locations and dates.

Special thanks to our Care To Shop Community Partner, Wells Fargo.

Preventing New InfectionsStaff and volunteers have been hard at work preparing 20,000 condom kits to be distributed at the upcoming Pride Parade on Sunday, June 28, 2009, and to bars in the surrounding areas. Mark your calendars now and plan to come out and march with Lifelong AIDS Alliance in the parade. We will be meeting at Freeway Park (near the corner of 6th and Seneca in downtown Seattle) at 10:30 a.m. if you'd like to join us.  The first 100 volunteers to contact Tony and confirm your attendance gets a free red Lifelong t-shirt!  All are welcome and encouraged to wear red.  If you can’t make it to the parade but still want to participate, contact our volunteer department to help us make condom kits in preparation for the event.

Thank you to Pjur Group USA for their generous donation of Eros personal lubricant, and for their continued support of Lifelong's prevention and education efforts
